In spite of a flat tire and a busted air conditioning, Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) persevered to continue his reelection campaign bus tour throughout western Pennsylvania. Just like most of his campaigns, the Senator assailed his challenger Bob Casey (D) for not offering adequate details on his policy positions, claiming that Casey is trying to win by betting on the strength of his name, a proven commodity in Pennsylvania politics. Santorum also criticized Casey's statement that he would have voted for an immigration bill that passed the Senate characterizing the legislation and his opponent as threat to national security because of what he and other critics call a lack of adequate emphasis on border security and provisions, which allows many illegal immigrants to attain citizenship, he derides as amnesty. Santorum also faulted Casey's approval of the withdrawal of US troop from Iraq, which Casey spokesman Larry Smar said the Senator misstated since Casey never spoke in favor of a troop withdrawal or a timetable for the withdrawal from Iraq.
Santorum's bus tour kicks off following a Muhlenberg University and the Allentown Morning Call poll showing him closing in on Casey's lead at six points, 45-39%. A Rasmussen survey released last week depicted Casey with a margin of 50-39% in a two-way race with the incumbent.
"Folks like Bob Casey and (Democratic National Chairman) Howard Dean don't understand.... If they did they wouldn't be talking about withdrawing troops and all the rest."
